Harry Potter has changed more lives than the government of this country has. Back in 2007, book readers did understand the feeling of nostalgia that the last book gave us, but only with the release of the last movie in the Harry Potter franchise: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows– Part 2, did most people truly understand the weight of never having another harry potter movie release. J.K Rowling has a large fan following even among people who do not read books. Did you know, Michael Jackson once approached Rowling for making the series into musicals, but thankfully she declined. While musicals are all right, I for once can not even imagine the movies any other way than they already are. The epilogue of the 8th movie gave us major nostalgia and a thirst to know what happened of each major character of the book series. So imagine our excitement when J.K Rowling, the genius that she is, told us about the lives of the major characters after the ‘Second Wizarding War’. I for one, re-read the whole series after Rowling told us what happens next. So here is what happens 19 years later, stop yourselves from having nostalgia wash through you after you read these!
Ah Harry! No matter how old you get, we will never forget your broken round glasses and lightening scar. But there is so much more to Harry Potter than meets the eye. Harry the picture of brevity and love in our heads, goes on to become what he had always hoped. He became the head of the Auror department. Though he did not go back to Hogwarts to finish his seventh year N.E.W.T.S, he became the head of whole department of Magical Law Enforcement later on; after all, experience should count for something, right? Harry married his sweetheart Ginny Weasley, and had 3 children whom he named after James and Lily Potter, Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape, Luna Lovegood and Sirius Black. The names of his children brought about a tide of wistfulness that made me go back and read the novels once again!
Harry Potter may have been ‘The Chosen One’, but Ron is the one to get the girl. Though it is common for the heroes to get the main girl, but Ron stole Hermione’s heart. Ron who came off as a scaredy cat at first, wasn’t all that scared at the end was he? 19 years hence, a pot-bellied Ron became an auror. He was also godfather of Harry’s oldest born. Ron married Hermione Granger and the couple together have 2 children. Ron later left his position at the Auror office and went to help his brother George manage the ever-growing business of the Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes.
From ginger curls to kicking ass, Hermione is everything a girl should want to be like. Great IQ, leader, independent yet pack person, emotionally strong and morally correct and mentally unyielding. Hermione has always been known to work for the elves and goblins society. Though the movies did not stand up clearly enough about her actual passion, Hermione is equivalent to social activists in the Wizarding society. She was first employed in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, then at the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, of which she becomes Deputy Head and helps to erase oppressive, pureblood-centric laws. Hermione is also a Minister of Magic later on. She takes over the job from Kingsley Shacklebolt. Hermione has two children with Ron: Rose and Hugo. After the war, Hermione made it a point to re-enroll in Hogwarts and finish her final year.
Ginny is married to Harry after 19 years. Not only that, she went on to shine as a Quidditch player, as a seeker of the Holyhead Harpies. After getting pregnant, Ginny joined the department of sports, as a Quidditch reporter of the Daily Prophet. It is really hard to get little shy Ginny’s picture of out of the head to a Ginny who is smart, fierce and self-dependant even though she has the world’s most popular wizard and auror as a husband.
I would never know what it feels like to lose a twin. Nor do I ever wish this upon anyone. George Weasley had undergone pain that he found difficult to cope with. He found solace in his friend, Angelina Thompson and the two married. He has two children, Fred and Roxanne. George kept his business that he originally started with his twin brother Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, and among the Weasley siblings, he has 10 nephews and nieces. After the loss of his brother, George could never procure a patronus again.
Neville became a herbology teacher at Hogwarts. Not a surprise eh? Neville married Hannah Abbot. Though in the last movie Neville claimed to be madly in love with Luna Lovegood, we do not know how that played out and how Neville came to be married to the landlady of the Leaky Cauldron. He becomes that cool teacher that lives in a pub.
Though not understood by most, Luna is one of those people who stood strong for what she believed. Even if it is utter balloney. Luna was the daughter of the editor of the Quibbles magazine. After the war, Luna traveled the world as a Magizoologist(Magical zoologist), finding rare creatures and species. She later on marries Rolf Scamander, the grandson of Newt Scamander– author of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.
One of the most loved villains of our time, Rowling was quoted saying that she was disappointed in the fan-following that Draco had. Somehow, Draco had managed to avoid a sentence at Azkaban after the downfall of Voldemort. He keeps civil terms with Harry. He married Astoria Greengrass, daughter of Daphne.
Son of Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks, who lost both his parents to the second wizarding war. In the last book, Harry was found grieving the loss that Teddy Lupin had faced which reminded him of his situation. Remus Lupin had told him at the end that ‘one day Teddy would understand what his parents gave their life for’. And we hope he did. Teddy Lupin was brought up by his maternal grandmother Andromeda. He was born a ‘Metamorphgamus’ just like his mother. Teddy Lupin was sorted into hufflepuff and later became the Head Boy in his 7th year. He did make his parents proud!
Other Events That Occured After The Book Ended
- Bill and Fleur Weasley had their first born on the anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts. They named her Victoire!
- In a live chat, Rowling answered that Umbridge was tried and questioned and later imprisoned in Azkaban for crimes against muggleborn wizards. We hope Hermoine was behind this!
- Harry and Dudley Dursley kept civil contact. Their children also met.
- A portrait of Severus Snape was installed beside Dumbledore. Harry made sure of that.
- Neville’s parents never recovered. Some pain in unforgettable and some losses are permanent.
- Harry was no longer a parseltongue. He lost that ability after the horcrux inside him was killed by Voldemort himself.
- The Marauders Map found its way back to Hogwarts after Harry’s children stole it from his desk.
- Harry, Ron and Hermione had their very own Chocolate Frog Card!
- The Ministry never used Dementors for law enforcement again. Hurray to that!
